CONTAINER SHIP LOSES 99 CONTAINERS AT SEA OFF SOUTH AFRICAN EAST COAST

The South African Maritime Safety Authority (“SAMSA”) has reported that a container ship encountered severe weather off the coast of Richards Bay on the night of Thursday 15th August 2024, resulting in a significant stow collapse and the loss of 99 containers overboard.

A navigational warning has been issued for the safety of navigation of other vessels in the vicinity.  SAMSA has requested the reporting of any sightings of the lost containers to the Maritime Rescue Coordinating Centre (“MRCC”), telephone +27 (0) 21 938 3300 / e-mail mrcc.ct@samsa.org.za
