Fire at the Port of Richards Bay - Disruption of port terminal activities
Allan Heydorn of our Richards Bay office has reported that a fire broke out at the clean cargo berths on the northern side of the port of Richards Bay late last night but was extinguished by the early hours of this morning.
Extensive damage was caused to the conveyor system and shipping agents have been advised to not book any further vessels. Early indications are that the sulphur and alumina conveyors have been incapacitated.
The cause of the fire and extent of the damage are still under investigation.
