New Minimum Wage for Domestic Workers

The Minister of Labour has announced an increase in minimum wages for domestic workers.  The increases will be gazetted shortly and will come into effect on 1 December 2015.

Domestic workers who work more than 27 ordinary hours per week in major metropolitan areas (Area A) must be paid at an hourly rate of not less than R11.44.  Domestic workers who work 27 ordinary hours or less per week in Area A, must be paid at an hourly rate of not less than R13.39.

Domestic workers who work outside of major metropolitan areas (Area B) and work more than 27 ordinary hours a week must be paid R10.23 an hour and those who work 27 ordinary hours or less per week must be paid not less than R12.07 per hour.
