Taryn is a partner in the Shipping & Logistics department. She is based in our Durban office. She was previously employed by a leading pre-shipment inspection company, where she dealt with, inter alia, tariff classification and valuation for exports to other countries. Her main focus is Customs and Excise law and International Trade Remedies. She advises clients on various aspects of Customs & Excise law including tariff, value and origin. She regulary attends to the internal dispute processes with SARS on behalf of clients. She frequently provides clients with legal opinions. In the Trade Remedy, she has assisted clients with duty reduction applications and applications for the creation of rebate items, as well as assisting in various reviews of safeguard duties. She also provides advice to clients regarding other government agencies like DALRRD, NRCS, and NCC on trade and import regulatory issues. She is active in publishing articles on customs and trade, providing training for clients, drafting standard operating duielines for clients and presenting at workshops held by Shepstone & Wylie for the industry.
Service on Boards and Associations: Taryn is an associated member of The Maritime Lawyers Association (MLA) and the South African Institute of Taxation (SAIT) as a Master Customs Tax Practitioner, and via Shepstone & Wylie is a member of the South African Freight Association (SAAFF).
