In the early hours of Saturday morning, 6 July 2019, an oil spill took place during offshore bunkering operations in Algoa Bay, off the ports of Ngqura and Port Elizabeth.  Approximately 200 to 400 litres of fuel was spilled into the sea.  Offshore bunkering operations were suspended until Wednesday, 10 July 2019 while the spill was mitigated and contained and the matter investigated by the South African Maritime Safety Authority.  Offshore bunkering operations have now resumed but are presently restricted to daylight hours only.  Delays are therefore expected to vessels intending to bunker in Algoa Bay.
