South African Ports Hit By Labour "Go-Slow"
It has been reported that industrial action in the form of a “go-slow” by labour at several of South Africa’s ports is hampering operations including ship movements. The “go-slow” apparently arises from a dispute over the payment of incentive bonuses. Ports affected include the three main South African container ports of Durban, Ngqura and Cape Town, with ships delayed on their berths while others queue up outside the ports awaiting berthing. According to some reports it is taking a container vessel almost twice the normal time to be turned around. Also affected are deliveries to the ports, particularly by road transport.
